Mirvac achieves White Ribbon Accreditation
Violence against women has devastating consequences for survivors, businesses and society. It is estimated that domestic and family violence will cost Australian businesses $609 million annually by 2021¹. Mirvac is playing its part to help victims of domestic and family abuse with a number of industry-leading initiatives.
Women who are exposed to domestic and family violence are employed in casual and part-time work in higher numbers, and their earnings are 60 per cent lower than women who do not experience such violence². Businesses have a crucial role to play in supporting women who may be living with violence at home, to identify the problem and assist with seeking help. When workplaces understand, recognise and respond, women and men can maintain economic independence to potentially escape a violent relationship.
Our senior leadership team has taken a strong stance to raise awareness of domestic and family violence, issuing company-wide communications and holding office briefings to promote understanding of the issue, and share information about the support available for any employees experiencing domestic and family violence. Mirvac has updated its leave policy to incorporate domestic and family violence leave and provide financial support. Employees also have access to the employee assistance program for specialised family violence counselling.
Mirvac has achieved White Ribbon accreditation, the first property group to do so, which means we are recognised as an organisation that seeks to stop all violence against women through education, awareness and prevention. We are providing face-to-face training for people managers to build awareness about domestic violence, and help our leaders support their team members in domestic and family violence situations. Through our accreditation, we have committed to three years of training to pursue our zero-tolerance policy relating to violence against women, bullying and harassment.
